Ok, my computer was doing FINE until i downloaded this dumb thing, and i felt that the computers was slow so i COMPLETELY erased it i think but my computer is really slow. my computer is windows xp and i had it for about a year and 4months. i have deleted all the uneccesarry files but i do have a big file for a long time which is 1,200MB. Why is my computer going really slow all of a sudden? i checked for malware(malicious ware) and i got rid of that and my AVG virus scan took more than 7hr so i havent checked for viruses yet.(if AVG sucks can u give me a free nice anti virus program?) and i did spybot search&destory and i had no threats. im dumb with computers so please help me :)

Start>Run> then type in (without quotes) "msconfig", hit OK.

Under 'General' tab select "Launch System Restore." Go back a few days before you downloaded the questionable software.

if you started having problems after you downloaded something from the internet, run a full virus scan. AVG is a vert good free program. it takes a while to run, but they all do when you run a full system scan. doing an uninstall or erasing files after a download often won;t remove all the files and bits of a program and if there were virus or bugs in what you downloaded it will slow your computer. run the AVG all the way through and if there are no virus threats and you know little about computers take it to a computer doc.

You could try CCleaner. You can get it Ccleaner.com. It's free and works pretty fast. It gets ride of those "hidden" files on your computer that people are always going on about. Let me give you an example on how much that cleaner cleaned out my computer.

When I went to defragment my C-drive, it said I had less than 3% free space. AFTER I used CCleaner, it said I had 18%. This might help you, try it out. It's free too.

Sorry, buddy, I cannot help you. I have been having the same problem. I contacted my ISP, NetZero, and was given four pages of instructions on how to look for the problem!!!!!!! The Dell tech rep, a woman in India, wanted me to email a message about the problem, rather than call on the phone.

If you get any good answers, will you pass them on to me?

Well in virtually all groups, your web is actually plugged into a few field on or close your road. When every body plugged into that field attempt to max out their web connections you may also revel in a few slower web. As on your pc, it does have anything to do with it. Your internet browser has to load, and your pc runs it. Viruses too can gradual down your pc and absorb plenty of your web connection, making it look gradual

You most likely have a messed up hard drive and need to format the drive and re-install windows XP. You should also avoid the free virus scanners and stick with a trusted named one such as Norton Anti Virus.

Windows Xp will erase your drive and start fresh and clean. Put your Win XP cd in the cd drive. Now turn off your computer. Now turn it on again about one minute later and follow the onscreen messages!

1. Make sure you restart frequently to clear your cache memory

2. Use disk defragmentor (in your system tools) to defrag your hard drive.

3. Upgrade your RAM - cheapest way to improve performance speed and multi-tasking capability.
