I just downloaded some movies with AVI formats. Before I can compile them in a DVD, I have to convert each one to MPEG2 (.mpg). Any recommendation on what software to use? Thanks.

No, I think you are going on a wrong way, needn't to convert them to mpeg2, video dvd use mpeg2codec to encode video data and save as .vob file, but most dvd players can't play separate mpgfileson dvd disc, only standard video DVD can be recognized well on most dvd players, standardvideo DVD should contains VOB, IFO and BUP files, so if you want to burn any movies to DVD to play well on dvd player, you need to use a right software to burn a standard video DVD from your movies, you can try RZ DVD Creator, it can convert any movies to standard video dvd and burn to any dvd disc(DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-R DL, DVD+R DL, etc), it also can be used to convert any movies to mpeg2 movies, such as convert and burn AVI movies to standard video DVD, then you can play the burned standard video DVD well on your DVD player.
