confused one what to do... This is the error..."The currently installed driver for the NVIDIA NForce device is not compatible with this version of Microsoft Windows. Setup will not be able to complete.

To download a new NVIDIA NForce driver, visit NVIDIA's Web site (www.nvidia.com). Web addresses can change, so you might be unable to connect to this Web site.

For a list of devices supported by this version of Windows, see the list of compatible hardware on the Microsoft Web site."

I found out (the hard way) that NVidia AGP cards do NOT work with Windows XP Professional. However, they DO work with the Home Edition.

Nvidia AGP cards DO work with XP Pro.

I'm writing my reply with one now....

Do a clean install of Pro.

I disagree with your conclusion that nVidia AGP cards work with XP Home but not with XP Pro. Internally, XP Home and Pro are identical -- with regards to drivers I mean.

I believe the problem may lie in this:

Upgrading XP Pro introduces an old version of DirectX which the nVidia video driver doesn't support.

To get around this, you need to do a clean install of Windows XP Pro: backup data, run installer again, but this time overwrite -- don't upgrade.

After getting the standard installation done, install SP2, then use AutoPacher XP to install most of the other patches.

Then install the nVidia Nforce motherboard drivers. Up until this last step, your video should be crummy VGA mode.

I believe this will fix your problem. Good luck.

Home to Pro is not an upgrade.

You need to do a clean install of PRO and download the drivers for it. There are XP Pro drivers for all the Nvidia video cards.
