Simple spreadsheet with fixed Distance in Row 1 (5,10, 15, 20, 25 meters). Column A has the names of 5 runners with their corresponding time for the aforementioned distances. I want to plot as a line graph with Distance on the vertical axis and Time on the horizontal but no matter what I try these axes are opposite what I want. I've even tried reentering my data in columns without success. Thanks!

Okay - here is the scoop. The Category (x) axis and Value (y) axis are pre-defined by Excel. The y axis will always be the value axis.

I saw your question when it first came up and being curious, as well as OCD, I just spent the last two hours trying to swap the x-y axes using just the chart options, menus etc. No soap. I did find out why (see my first statement above). I even tried adding secondary axes and hiding the primary axes thinking I would have more control over the secondaries, but it still didn't happen.

If this is really important to you and you will need to use this capability over and over you might talk to a vba developer (visual basic for applications). Vba developers can write the code to define or redefine elements or new gadgets inside ms office products.

Hope that is helpful.

hi, the least perplexing thank you to try this (as long as you do not recommendations arising the chart lower back) is to place your X axis values interior the 1st column and then your 2 separate trials for the Y axis values interior the subsequent 2 columns. So, as an occasion: - In column A placed the be conscious Time in cellular A1 and then put in some time values - i don't understand precisely what your timing values are yet 00:00:01 is one million 2d, 00:01:00 is one million minute, and 01:00:00 is one million hour - use this format on your situations in case you could. - In column B placed the be conscious Trial1 in cellular B1 and then the area values decrease than this. - In column C placed the be conscious Trial2 in cellular C1 and then the area values decrease than this. as quickly as you have have been given each and all of the information in there, decide on each and all of the cells (the least perplexing way is to click on cellular A1 and press CTRL + A on the keyboard). Now, from the menu click the Insert tab and seek for the Scatter button. click the drop arrow in this button and decide between the chart kinds - i might choose for one with strains starting to be a member of the information factors. you need to discover which you have have been given situations alongside the backside x-axis, distance alongside the vertical y-axis, a blue line on your trial1 values and a crimson line on your trial2 values. desire it helps.

I understand you want a line graph. I tried it like the other person who gave an answer and again no deal.

However, if you were willing to change to a sideways bar graph, you would be able to show distance on what would appear to be the Y axis, and the time on what would appear to be the X axis.
