Internet rumors talk about maybe having to upgrade to iwork 09 to access all of the features, but it should "work" according to Apple.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3879
iWork '08 system requirements
* A Mac with an Intel, PowerPC G5, or PowerPC G4 (500MHz or faster) processor
* 512MB of RAM; 1GB recommended

Before you even posted this question, you should have tried to install iWork 08 yourself.
OS X Lion will tell you if that App, or any other App, you're trying to install is NOT compatible with it.
Then, we would have been able to help you find an OS X Lion compatible version.
TIP: It does install just fine.

Yeah Kevin, all of those things are DEFINITELY what novices and computer newbies are dying to do! Let's install BSD and dive face-first into the command line! Or install Gentoo and build everything piece. By. Piece. You do realize that OS X is Unix and that you can definitely dig down into the system and screw with all kinds of Unix-land goodness, right? Darwin, the core of OS X, is open source. So are other components of the system. As for making it faster, you might want to specify. 4GB of RAM is enough for just about any day to day. 8GB is cheap if you want to bump it up, but probably not necessary. For general tasks, an SSD would probably make it zippier than anything else, but those aren't cheap. You'll want to be sure and get a nice SATA 3 model if you go that route.
