Macs come with nice, easy to use basic Text Editor that's called (easy to remember) Text Edit! You will find it in Applications. It allows you to save in a couple of different formats (including RTF, which means your formatting stays in and you can open the file in other programs like Word). You can apply some basic formatting to your text, such as spacing, fonts, even color to the text, and you can even place images in the document. It even has some basic list formats.

I use it for small documents and other purposes, so that I don't have to buy Microsoft Word/Microsoft Office. It isn't ideal for major projects, but for smaller ones it works well.

Most MacBook Pros come bundled with Microsoft Office 2004 Test Drive. Unfortunately, it is only a 30 day trial. You either have to use an older word processor or "stickies" . . . or you have to purchase a word processor.

The other option is to go to a website like:

http://hogbaysoftware.com/products/writeroom

(You can download Writeroom and then buy it for about $24.00, I think)

or

http://www.coolosxapps.net/2007/02/08/abiword-free-mac-word-processor/

(This a a free word processor you can download for OSX)

Hope one of these helps.

iWork is an in-between product. Your mac will contain a loose observe processor observed as TextEdit. There are loose workplace programs with constrained compatibility. Pages is greater constructive. observe is plenty plenty greater constructive.
