Question:
I need to free more space on my computer. Can I go to "Program Files" and delete programs from there?

I've already uninstalled what I could. I have at least one big program taking up a lot of space that I couldn't uninstall because of some bug in the program.

Also, when I go to "Program Files", I see icons for programs that I either don't use or have already uninstalled.

Can I just go to "Program Files" and delete programs from my hard drive by right-clicking on the icons of the programs I don't want, and then pressing delete?

Yes you can just make sure that you do not delete anything that you may use in the future

Try Add/Remove programs, in Control Panel. If a program that you want to get rid of isn't in there, then try looking in the program files, and under that programs folder, and they 'might' have an uninstall.exe in there instead.

If you're not sure what you should/shouldn't remove, leave it on there, and do some research with a search engine to see what exactly that program does.

Also look up how to clean/maintain your computer in a search engine. In particular disk cleanup, Error Check, Defrag, msconfig, deleting temp files/cookies, registry cleaner. The registry cleaner is the only one you'll have to download a program for, and there's loads of free one's out there.

If you've never done any of these, and you've had the computer for a while, you'll probably be surprised by how much room it will clear up for you :)

Yes, but be careful. Program Files is the default store location for mostly all software programs on your computer and you dont want to delete a bunch of important software.

I would recommend first running disk cleanup(go to My Computer and right click on the drive and go to properties), this will delete your TMP internet files and other useless data that you never really use. After running disk cleanup you should run Disk Defragmenter. Also, go through all your media (songs, pictures, videos) and make sure to delete all your duplicates). Dont forget to empty your recycle bin.

Another highly recommended thing to do would be to buy an External HD and back up all your media to it, then you can just delete all the data off the drive you are using for your operating system. Personally, I have a 250GB HD with a 30GB O/S partition and 2 110GB partitions for different data.

go to control panel and go to add or remove programs and delete everything you dont need. After that if there is still stuff in the program files folder you dont wont delete them manually. also under control panel and then internet options delete temporary internet files. that will free up some space too. you can also run a disk cleanup and then Defragment the drive. You'll find all that in control panel also. Hope that helps.

Dangerous.

Start - Settings - Control Panel - Add/Remove programs is what you use to delete programs from your PC safely.

Find your TEMP folder (usually C:\Windows\TEMP) and delete whatever's in there - some files may be in use, but you can safely remove the rest)

There's also C:\Documents and Settings\Your Profile\Local Settings\Temp. Empty that folder, too.

Empty the Recycle Bin. Change the settings (right-click, select "Properties") by moving the slider to the left.

no.. actually you can go to the "control panel" and then go to the "add- remove programs" icon.. there, you can add or remove the programs that you already want to delete.. if you right click the icon on your desktop, it will only deleted on your desktop.. not on the program... but.. be careful in deleting the programs.. because it will affect the performance of your computer.. I hope this will help you.. (^_^)

If you've tried add and remove programs in control panel and you have something that it won't remove then as a last resort you can delete the folder for that program in the program files folder. You'd better try running a registry cleaner afterwards though.

Go to control panel and delete/uninstall programs from there. It's also a good to go into your internet options and delete all unused cookies/browsing history/temporary folders etc...

Too vague of a question. You might blow away something important. If you know it's just an icon delete it, but icons are only 1KB so that won't free up much.

Delete cookies, temporary internet files and defrag your drive before you blow away any application related stuff.

No. To uninstall programs, go to control panel, then change/uninstall programs.
