You have to set the letterhead as a first-page-only page header in the template. Here's how. If you know how to edit the template AS A TEMPLATE rather than as a new document, do this that way. If not, do this to the pre-template Word document, then save it again as a template.

In versions of Word prior to Word 2007:

1. Click the File->Page Setup menu item.

2. Click the Layout tab.

3. Check the "Different first page" checkbox under Headers and Footers.

4. Click OK.

In Word 2007 and 2010:

1. Click the Page Layout tab on the Ribbon.

2. Click the little arrow in the lower right corner of the Page Setup group.

3. Continue as in Step 2, above.

Hope that helps.

You don't put template into Word documents, you create documents using templates.

Click New and choose the template that you want to use to create your document and then when you are presented with the editor window, just start typing. Sometimes there is text for headings and the like that you can replace and other optional things.

Just start typing.

To get the Developer Tab into Word, click on the big round Office Button, then Word Options, the Popular then click on Show Developer Tab.

Hello Ron,

I've been pondering this question for awhile. Templates! Templates usually can be opened by clicking on File, New in Word, and browse through the available templates categories, ie::

Templates on my Computer... Tabs such as General, Legal Pleading, Letters & Faxes, Mail Merge, Memos, Other Documents, etc..

Although your question states: "...do you insert template into word document?

If you wish to have one of these templates available, but wish to have changes, you will need to open that template you need to determine where Word keeps these templates...

C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates

By opening the selected template you could make changes and re save it with a new template.

Another me hod of inserting a template into word document? Is to simply create the document you wish to have as a template, then choose File Save As, in the Save In Drop down box below the filename box, you can choose a preferred location to save your new created template.

I'm sure you are aware a template is for keeping the same layout and formatting and allowing to open this template for different data entry.

Once this new template is created, if you wish to modify your template you must use Word to open this file changing the Files of Type being sure DOT, extension is selected.

To use your template as a new document, you must use MyComputer or Windows Explorer to open your template as a new document type.

Hope this helps,

Here's a link that discusses how to use templates in Word. Hopefully you can find your answer here.

where are the custom templates that you add under : C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\My Templates? When you create a new Word file, it only shows you their templates and online templates. I cannot find my templates using the UI. I have to manually go to the folder and open the .dotx file.

I know this doesn't answer your question, but Word isn't meant for making webpages, its meant for word processing. I suggest you use Dreamweaver or something better suited instead.
