Want a free one that will play just about any media file not just dvds ?
Try media player classic. It is a version of the older media player that has all the codecs already installed, it's fast, FREE and takes very little system resources. No need to even install it. Just download it, open it and click file - open dvd.
* Don't listen to Ryan (I wish I had a clue) down there. Windows Media Player CANNOT play dvd's without the codecs which it uses from..........................???? Yep, PowerDVD or WINDVD or any other Dvd playing software that might be installed on your machine and if you had that already you wouldn't be asking this question.
