I would like ton uninstall and then reinstall Windows XP on my computer, but I am afraid to do so for fear of damaging my system. I have read some articles that stated that I should run a clean up program first before doing that because I may not need to re-install Windows XP, and I have done that but all of the clean up programs that I have downloaded, I have to purhase the product in order for ALL of the bugs on my computer to be fixed. So now, I want to do a complete uninstall and reinstall of Windows XP, but I need step by step instructions because I am NOT a computer savvy person. Thanks any andd everyone for their help in advance! I really appreciate it!

How to remove Windows XP

To remove Windows XP, follow these steps:

1. Restart your computer in Safe mode. To do this, press the F8 key while Windows is starting.

2. Log on with an account that has administrative credentials.

3. Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add or Remove Programs.

4. In the list of installed programs, double-click Uninstall Windows XP.

Note If Uninstall Windows XP is not in the list of installed programs, you must manually reinstall Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition. In this case, make sure that you back up all your critical data before you reinstall Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition.

5. When you receive the following message, click Yes to start the Windows XP removal:

Are you sure you want to uninstall Windows XP and restore your previous operating system?

6. After Windows XP is removed, your computer restarts to the previously-installed operating system.

To install Windows XP, follow these steps:

1. Start your computer, and then insert the Windows XP CD into the CD or DVD drive.

2. If Windows automatically detects the CD, click Install Windows to start the Windows XP Setup Wizard.

If Windows does not automatically detect the CD, click Start, click Run, type the following command, and then click OK:

CD drive letter:\setup.exe

3. When you are prompted to select an installation type, select Upgrade (the default setting), and then click Next.

4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the upgrade.

ok, first you want to format your hard drive. To do this, go to start/run and type in cmd. At the c: prompt type in FORMAT C: /S

The /s lets the computer know that you are setting this format up for reinstalling system files(stronger format command). Just follow the instructions from there....very simple.

After it finishes the format, reboot. Next place the XP install CD into the drive and hit F2 to boot from the CD(if you do not see this option, your to slow). Select to format the drive in NTFS format using the whole drive(it will list the drive size). Just select the install XP option. The rest has the instructions (options) on the screen during installation......"SO EASY A CAVEMAN COULD DO IT" :)

Click on the link below, it's not that hard, make sure you back up anything you want to keep, like pictures data to cd before doing this as you will lose everything on the hard drive, abd make sure you have all the discs for all the things you want to reload, and another tip, format it with NTFS instead of FAT32, you will see this option when you get into the installation, and make sure you delete all your partitions when it asks. it's a bit scary the first time. but is quite easy to do.

You don't need to uninstall. Just pop in the CD and start the installation process.
