It's an excel feature called "Text to Columns". You want to copy and paste your list from notepad into excel, so you have a column of excel rows. Then highlight want you want to convert, and find the "text to columns" button.
Depending on the version of excel you have, it will be in different places. If you have 2007 or 2010, it's a big button under the "Data" tab. Be sure to highlight the values you want to split up before clicking the button. You want to say that your selection is "delimited", and then on the next screen, check "Other" and type in a period. Just follow the prompts from there.
Also, if you have 2007 or 2010, try using the excel help function. It's quite good now. Just type in "text to columns" and it should give more information then I just did.
Lastly, if you don't have excel 2007 or 2010, go and buy the office 2010 suite. It's more then worth the money.

if all the columns are separated by a comma and each row contains exactly one name, address and phone no. then rename the .txt file to .csv file using windows explorer and then open in excel. If the format is all all jumbled then you have to manually edit it!
