Unmountable_boot_volume error, please help?

I have the blue screen unmountable_boot_volume error. (STOP OXC0009C). I tried to go into safemode to fix it, but it keeps coming up the same thing, so I tried to just use my recovery CD's and it says, "Cannot recover, harddrive size is too small). What can I do if I can't do nothing? I can not even get to the setup screen on the recovery. Please Help. Thank you in advance.

Can I get to DOS and do something from there?

Boot with CD and select console i.e. Recovery console and then type chkdsk /f after that restart your computer will boot now

If the console recovery approach fails, get ready to reinstall Windows.

Easiest approach to getting your data off the drive is to pull the physical hard drive out of the computer, put it into another computer, get the data off, put the drive back into the original machine, delete all partitions and reinstall Windows, and then copy the data back over to the drive. If that fails, try booting up a live Linux distro. (e.g. Ubuntu) and use it to mount the drive as a NTFS volume.

However, be aware that a sudden STOP error like that just showing up one day could indicate premature hard drive failure. It could also just be some virus that wiped out critical data.

There is a Caldera Dos disk fix out there, I think you may have a more serious issue.

My suspicion is you have lost your zero sectors, therefore rendering your disc useless.

Disk fix is worth a shot, it will boot and load from CD, I would only do this if you have stuff you are attempting to save.

Obviously you have been good at keeping backups of your files, therefore don't have to sweat too much.

You may have to buy a new HD

Disk Fix is about $40 a new HD $80, you can work it out.
