You need to enable Restricted Formats

Here is the Official Ubuntu Restricted Formats Documentation

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

Open a Terminal and submit the following command

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

This will enable Java along with a whole host of multimedia codecs

Use the program manager Synaptic to install Java. When you open it, it will ask for a password, it will be your user password. Once open type in search box Java and it will bring up a list of Java. Click on it and have it install it. All the software that is available for what ever version Linux you use is installed from Synaptic or a program manager. To download it and try to install it requires knowledge of the Console commands and the proper syntax you type on the screen. This is harder to do this way.

Hello;

The good news is that this is an easy problem to fix --

The problem is not in the Ubuntu operating system, rather it is in your internet browser (Firefox0. Go to the Tools tab and then to Add Ons select the various plug-ins that will work. I have several of them running so I don't know exactly which ones you need so you will probably have to play around with it to get it to work right.

The Java plug-in (obviously)

The Iced-t plug-in (I think)

The GC Web browser plug-in (I think)

The QuickTime plug-in (I think)

Best of luck,

Java is built-in to Ubuntu.

So, update Ubuntu, and it will automatically update to the latest Java.

Still stuck?
