Microsoft has worked very hard on Vista, apparent by the many setbacks on the date of release. Chances are you will never find even one bug, under normal operation. Normal operation however does not include connection to the internet. Microsoft is notorious for updates, not becuase of bug fixes and glitches, but rather security updates. People find ways to hack into the system, mess with information, change things, these updates are ment to protect the legitimet user.
However, there are cases in which there have been bugs and glitches, but Vista has been throughly tested by an enormous geographic. Release Build RC 5600 was openly given to test by the public, which resulted in another few builds due to bugs. Then people were once again allowed to test and so on.... The release the general public will be getting will be near 100%, the only people who would ever encounter problems would be Gamers, those who would spend near $3000 on thier computer, or the really technical people who would dive into the registry and stuff normal people wouldn't dare to touch.
Anyway, there is little point in not buying Vista when it comes out... the best benefit to waiting would be saving $30 if the prices drop.

MS release patches for all operating systems of theirs every two weeks in Patch Tuesday, so the same will probably apply to Vista.

Never buy anything you want to be reliable in the first release. It is better to wait a couple of years.
